This month, Korean bands descended on the SXSW Music Festival for the K-Pop Night Out showcase! On Tuesday afternoon, Elysium in downtown Austin was a hub of activity and chaos as Jambinai, Nell, Hollow Jan, Idiotape, Crying Nut, Jay Park, and HyunA came in one by one for rehearsals and soundcheck. Of course, your friends at AKPF were there to capture all the best moments (HyunA without makeup whuuuuut) as the artists geared up for their big night.
Crying Nut, consummate professionals, got their rehearsal out of way early, and while Nell took their time on stage, Jay Park (and his entourage) rolled in and break danced on the empty dance floor (like you do). Jambinai‘s set up is impressive even in a rehearsal setting, with all the cool instruments and the staging of the band members. Hollow Jan, a last minute addition after Kiha and the Faces couldn’t get their visas sorted, were a little rushed but got what they needed. HyunA arrived (around the same time as the catered Jimmie John’s sandwiches) with a host of dancers and spent maybe three minutes on stage before letting the technician know “It’s good, I like it,” and promptly peace-ing out. I guess when the only levels you need are a backing track and a single microphone, soundcheck is a quick process.
Check out some of our favorite (super duper hi-def) photos from the day and stay tuned for more photos of K-Pop Night Out 2014.
Fun fact: Jay Park is not as beefy looking in person.
