The annual SXSW Music Festival is nearly upon us! And luckily for you, your AKPF editor-in-chief lives and works in Austin and will be bringing you ALL the goodies from this year’s festivities.
For the next few weeks we’ll be going over all the Korean acts that will be performing in Austin in 2014. Odds are, you haven’t heard of most of them. But learning is fun!
First up, Yoon Do Hyun and his legendary rock band, YB.
YB is hailed as the father of Korean rock. The band entered the scene in the mid-1990′s, and though Korea was familiar with American and British rock, Yoon Do Hyun was the first to put Korean-produced rock music in the mainstream. If you like any modern Korean rock bands, you have this guy to thank. YB’s true breakthrough was in 2002 when their song Oh Pilseung Korea became the ubiquitous theme of the Korea-Japan World Cup.
Twenty years have gone by and still YB rocks harder than ever! Not only will they be performing in Austin at SXSW, they’ll also be hitting up Dallas and Atlanta for solo shows. Click here for more information and how to buy tickets to a show near you!
