Like I said in my Don’t Hate Me MV review, I watched both of these MVs multiple times. And while I could easily describe Don’t Hate Me, UP is a little bit harder. Not because it is not as good as DHM, because it was just as amazing, but more because I didn’t quiet know how to put my feelings into words. That, by the way, is a bad trait for a writer.
UP is what I’d like to call an anthem song. There are many different types of anthem songs, girl anthems, break-up anthems, and then just I-don’t-give-a-$@#%-I’m-just-gonna-do-my-best anthems. And that last category is where UP falls. It is just as catchy as DHM, but while DHM is thanking the fans, UP is letting everyone know that they will never give up. Also, the addition of 2NE1′s Bom in the chorus is just amazing. Her voice helps add to that anthem feel and fits with the song just perfectly. But… Go ahead and take a listen before I go into more details about the MV and lyrics.
The MV for UP is skater-boi-esque, but that is because skateboarding and BMX riding is all about trying and getting back up and trying again if you get knocked down. It is also seen as a rebellious sport. I don’t know why, but if you think about it, all skaters seem to have this rebellious nature. So skateboarding was used because of that rebellious spirit and the get-back-up-and-try-again attitude. That thought of “I love what I’m doing, even if you don’t approve”. There are other activities that portray that feeling, but most of them are illegal. So… not very okay for a MV.
All in all, I love the lyrics, I love the song, and I love the MV, though I had a hard time describing it. What about you, did you love it too?
