Review: La Shauna Loves “I Love You”

There has been a bit of criticism of 2ne1′s latest single “I Love You” some saying it was not as good as past songs, even that it sounds similar to other songs. I have to say I 100% disagree. I actually liked this better than some of their past songs (“Go Away” and “Stay Together”) and I didn’t think it fell short of expectations. I won’t say it was their best song since in my eyes “Lonely” will forever hold that title, but it was far from being bad.

First off let me address the idea that this is a copy of T-ara’s “Lovey Dovey.” I will be honest that the “Whoo~” part did remind me of “Lovey Dovey” but not one other part of this song is any way a “copy” of “Love Dovey.”

Apparently this song was supposed to be a mix of electronic, and TROT! I didn’t even guess that trot was an influence for this song until I read about it, and I really don’t think “I Love You” can be classified as trot. Trot has a very unique sound, and that sound was lost in this song.

“I Love You” was 2ne1′s attempt to reinvent themselves, and comeback with a sexier image than they have done before. With this track 2ne1 is putting their no nonsense, tough girl image on the back burner while they take a stab at being sexy, but more vulnerable, and feminine. It was successful. Some girl groups really need to take a page from 2ne1’s book. 2ne1 was able to be sexy, and feminine with pretty appropriate choreography, and a decent amount of clothes. Most of their sexiness can from their music, their voices, and their personalities, and it’s for that reason they are my favorite girl group.

The Song

The vocals for this song were ALL on point, everyone’s vocal ability shined through.

I have to say I did miss hearing a fierce CL rap but she brought the charisma and fierceness even though she was singing. She was really able to show why she is 2ne1′s leader, and that she is more than just the rapper of the group.

Park Bom, and Dara really took more of a backseat on this track. The focus seemed to be on CL more than anyone else. However, I did feel like I was seeing a new side of Dara, a more confident, and powerful image than I’ve seen in promotions past. I heard more of her voice; she wasn’t just the super high background vocals for this, she really held her own in the chorus, and for her solo parts.

Music Video

CL’s Lap Dance

Let’s talk about this weird scene where CL is giving a lap dance to an empty chair. It really made me laugh when I first watched the video, but I know that must be one happy chair. What I want to know is, what was the meaning behind it. I feel I had some idea what it “symbolized,” but even then I still think it was random.

Wrap Up

I give 2ne1 high marks across the board for this song because they were able to reinvent themselves well, but still maintained their spunk, did the sexy concept without the too revealing clothing, and raunchy dance moves, and they got me even more excited to hear the rest of their album.

Someone said she’s doing the dance for herself, but idk. It was hot, though. You got to love a good catsuit. I didn’t know similar ad-libs meant a song was a copy of another. It reminds me of the comments saying Miryo’s Party Rock wad similar to Maroon 5′s Moves Like Jagger.

I so agree with you I have heard many had mixed feelings towards the song but I also loved it and feel it was good and showed a different side to 2NE1, I also agree it is not their best song to date but it was a good song and I loved it. The lap dance scene was a bit weird/sexy lol all in all I am happy with this song and awaiting future new songs =)

I didn’t like it initially… but then I caught myself humming it in the shower and was like “well damn, I guess it can’t be THAT bad.” lol

I like 2NE1′s ” I Love You”. All the girls sound good but for me Dara and Minzy’s voices stand out the most! I didn’t hear any trot influence in the song either so that part left me confused too. Overall, I’d say “I Love You” is not the best song 2NE1 ever came out with but it’s still a good single nonetheless! :)
CL’s lap dance was a little awkward for me too. Like who is she dancing for? lol But she has a killer body as well as Minzy! At first, I didn’t like the video (still don’t care much for it) but I do like their styling the more I watch them perform. They’re all looking good! Just next time, the make-up artists shouldn’t too soooo much powder and foundation on them. :3 It’s like their faces are all light but then the rest of them is a darker shade….
